Overview

The MCTV Series is a modular stackable one-way throttle valve that combines the functions of a flow control valve and a check valve in a single, compact sandwich-type housing. This valve provides free flow in one direction and adjustable restricted flow in the opposite direction, making it ideal for applications requiring different speeds for extend and retract strokes. Designed to NG6/Cetop 3 mounting standards, the MCTV valve integrates seamlessly into modular valve stacks, eliminating the need for separate inline components and reducing potential leak points.

Key Functions

Function

Description

One-Way Check Function

Allows unrestricted flow in the free-flow direction with minimal pressure drop

Adjustable Throttling

Manual knob control restricts flow in the opposite direction

Bi-Directional Speed Differentiation

Independent control of actuator speeds in each direction

Modular Integration

Direct stacking between directional valves and subplates

Precision Flow Regulation

Maintains consistent restricted flow regardless of load changes

Working Principle

The MCTV valve incorporates two distinct flow paths within a single body:

Free Flow Direction (Check Valve Mode)

  • Hydraulic pressure opens the internal poppet or ball check element

  • Fluid bypasses the throttle mechanism entirely

  • Minimal pressure drop ensures rapid actuator movement

  • Spring-assisted closure prevents reverse flow when pressure is removed

Controlled Flow Direction (Throttle Mode)

  • Check element seats firmly, blocking direct passage

  • Fluid is forced through the adjustable throttle orifice

  • Knob rotation varies orifice opening, controlling flow rate

  • Resulting pressure drop limits actuator speed in this direction

Adjustment Mechanism

  • Fine-pitch threaded needle or spool provides sensitive control

  • Graduated scale or position indicator aids repeatable settings

  • Locking feature prevents unintended adjustment from vibration

Primary Applications

1. Injection Molding Machines

  • Mold Closing: Free flow for rapid mold approach; throttled flow for slow, protective mold contact

  • Ejector Systems: Fast ejector plate advance (free flow); controlled return (throttled) to prevent part damage

  • Core Pullers: Quick core extension; slow, precise retraction for safe mold opening

2. Hydraulic Presses

  • Pressing Operation: Rapid ram descent (free flow) until work contact; controlled pressing speed (throttled)

  • Return Stroke: Fast return (free flow) for productivity; optional slow approach to top position

  • Safety Applications: Gravity-fall prevention through meter-out control on press cylinders

3. Machine Tools

  • Rapid Traverse vs. Feed: Fast table positioning (free flow); controlled cutting feed (throttled)

  • Drilling/Tapping Cycles: Rapid spindle approach; regulated feed rate for chip control

  • Grinding Machines: Fast wheelhead advance; precise infeed for finish passes

4. Material Handling Equipment

  • Lift Platforms: Rapid ascent (free flow); controlled, safe descent (throttled)

  • Conveyor Systems: Fast belt tensioning; slow release for maintenance

  • Pallet Changers: Quick pallet pickup; slow, accurate placement

5. Mobile & Construction Equipment

  • Excavator Booms: Fast boom raise; controlled lower to prevent load drop

  • Loader Arms: Rapid lift for productivity; smooth lowering for load placement

  • Aerial Work Platforms: Fast platform raise; safety-limited descent speed

Detailed Usage Scenarios

Scenario A: Meter-In Control for Cost-Effective Speed Differentiation

Configuration: MCTV on pressure port (P line) before directional valve
Application: Horizontal machining center table feed
Operation:
- Extend Stroke: Flow through MCTV throttle → Slow, precise cutting feed
- Retract Stroke: Free flow through check → Rapid return for next part
Advantage: Single MCTV replaces dual throttle valves, reducing cost and complexity
Note: Less precise than meter-out; affected by load variations

Scenario B: Safety-Critical Descent Control

Configuration: MCTV on rod port of hydraulic elevator or lift
Safety Requirements: OSHA/ANSI compliance for personnel lifting
Function:
- Up Direction: Free flow through check → Normal lifting speed
- Down Direction: Throttled flow → Maximum 125% of rated lowering speed
- Built-in redundancy: Check valve prevents uncontrolled descent if throttle fails
Compliance: Meets safety standards for industrial lifting equipment

Scenario C: Injection Molding Ejector Optimization

Configuration: MCTV on ejector cylinder rod port
Mold Cycle Integration:
- Ejection Phase: P→ejector piston (throttled if meter-in) → Controlled part push
- Reset Phase: Ejector piston retract (free flow) → Fast return for next cycle
Result: Gentle part ejection prevents cosmetic defects; fast reset improves cycle time
Critical: Proper sizing prevents ejector pin bending from excessive speed

Critical Installation Notes

  1. Arrow Direction: Valve body indicates preferred free-flow direction; reverse mounting inverts function

  2. Adjustment Access: Ensure knob remains accessible after manifold assembly

  3. Filter Recommendation: 25-micron filtration extends throttle element life

Adjustment Procedure

  1. Start with knob fully open (minimum restriction)

  2. Cycle actuator and gradually close knob until desired speed achieved

  3. Verify no cavitation noise (indicates excessive restriction)

  4. Lock setting and mark position for maintenance reference

Troubleshooting Guide

Issue

Cause

Solution

No speed difference between directions

Valve mounted backwards or check valve stuck

Verify arrow direction matches intended free flow; inspect check element

Erratic speed in throttled direction

Air in system or insufficient back pressure

Bleed system; consider meter-out mounting for load stability

Slow speed in both directions

Throttle adjusted too far closed

Re-adjust to mid-range position

Check valve chatter

Flow rate exceeds check capacity

Upsize valve or add damping orifice
